Just to be clear for those following along: I think debootstrap
produces a useable system, though I have yet to install a kernel (and
maybe udev) to verify that.  The problem is that the instructions
don't quite work.

The use of evms is certainly non-standard, but the use of udev will
not be, I think.  So that case, at least, probably merits note, and
maybe some changes (e.g., perhaps debootstrap should install udev).

OK, I'll see if debian-user has any ideas.

Meanwhile, I'll see if I can actually get a kernel built.  I seem to
need some stuff from unstable to do the job.
