Bug#349636: further info
this does indeed seem to only be a problem with initrd preseeding, as file
preseeding did execute the preseed/early_command
Though I am giving up on the etch beta1 installer for now. I would like
initrd preseeding to work (since I require kern 2.4 (for floppy), and like
the space that initrd preseeding frees up on the kernel command line).
Another bug I ran into is that it appears that the preseed info relating
to base-config does not get used. Specifically the creating of a non-root
user, was prompted for, despite it being preseeded. I suspect this
relates to the absence of base-config early/late commands in the preseed
file. I got the impression (from random bits of info) that base-config
was supposed to happen during the install and before the reboot. This was
not the case for me. Perhaps because I used kern 2.4?
It seems clear that to get etch auto-installed, my current best bet is to
go back to sarge and do a dist upgrade of sorts in baseconfig/late-command
or whatever late-late-commands I bootstrap after that.
a couple other nuisances- I tried a partman recipe for a single large
primary partition, and it ignored the $primary directive and gave me one
large partition in the extended partition.
Also, it would be nice to know how to preseed for a swapfile (or no swap),
instead of my current hack which appears to be removing the swap_check
script in my preseed/early_command.
Also, with the etch beta1 I had to modify my aforementioned modprobing of
crc32/mii/usbnet, by adding a depmod call in the preseed early command.
That was wierd.
