I used the debian-installer daily image, if that's what you mean.When
the exim configuration window is shown, it looks something like

The hexadecimal codes that are displayed are shifted to the right, and
cut off in the middle. I think I selected the third choice, "mail sent
by smarthost; no local mail," when d-i locked up.
