I don't see the messages I would expect had you passed DEBCONF_DEBUG=5
on the boot line. Probably because it got cut off since the line is so
long due to your preseeding stuff:

There is this, which suggests the installer is crashing, but oddly,
there is only one instance of it in the log, not many.
