Bug#325622: Debian destroyed my 30GB Maxtor

after partition I get "filesystem activation failed"
then it goes back to partition
after clicking "yes"
I get "partition disks input/output error"

this is what I can do / not do:

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [E]
Mount partitions: [E]
Install base system: [E]
Install boot loader: [E]
Reboot: [E]

please describe in a few short steps
how to install "debian" on a blank HD

your manual is to complex

I have used "suse9.3" but want to switch away
because of keyboard problems ...

all I get is:
INPUT/OUTPUT ERROR and FILESYSTEM ERROR

- it fried my HD -

The last is very unlikely.

What stage have you reached when this occurs? Is it when the partitioner is starting up or when you have set up all the partitions you want and try to commit the changes?

Have you tried booting the installer with 'linux26'? That will make the installer use a 2.6 kernel instead of the default 2.4 kernel.

Can you please give us the exact error messages visible on VT3 (use alt-F3) or VT4 (use alt-F4) when you see the errors?
