You should have just continued. The rewrite of the partition table is just 
to make sure other changes don't get in the way of the resize.
It may be that the message is even shown when you have not yet made any 
changes, in which case writing the table is not really needed but won't 
do any harm either.

No, the warning is unrelated and that issue was fixed before the release 
of sarge.
