DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text broken

Hi,
	I've been trying to install debian on a server, but it doesnt have
a video card, so I am connecting to it via console. However, when I type
"linux DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text" at the boot prompt, it goes through the
initial stuff, but then gives me the error:

/home/joey/src/d-i/packages/cdebconf/src/frontend.c:160 (frontend_new):
Cannot l
oad frontend module /usr/lib/cdebconf/frontend/text.so:
/usr/lib/cdebconf/fronte
nd/text.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

	This error message is repeated continuously and indefinitely.
Initially this was with a minimal CD with the intention of downloading the
rest of the install as I go, when this happened, I tried the CD1 from the
full distribution, but with the same results.
	Am I doomed to sit in the server room for hours with the graphical
install?

Yours in hope
Larry
