Hi davide

a little hint: do

export DEBCONF_DEBUG=5

before running debconf: it will log a lot of informations to 
/var/log/syslog, they can be filtered with sort lokking for GTK tag.
I remember sometimes even the X frontend used to cras in the same way, 
tought it usually works well: there is definitely something misterious 
inside cdebconf..
