Comments/Problems:

I had recently installed Woody from CDs, therefore I had some experience,
which helped a lot. The X server, WWWoffle, and, printer file formats all
caused me great trouble when installing woody. But with Sarge I had the
benefit of experience.

My first mistake with sarge was to try to upgrade from Woody by download.
After I had downloaded aptitude and perl, I discovered that it was necessary
to update all the installed packages except for one. It would cost more to
do that than have the CDs mailed to me. So I had the CDs mailed to me.

The installer tried to set-up and use e-mail before I was ready.
I was installing from CD, so had not connected my Sarge installation to the
network.

Getting the X server to work caused difficulty. It failed to tell me why it
would not work. So (as a non-prividged user) I gave the command startx, this
also failed, but at least it told me that there was a fault relating to the
mouse.
My prior experience with RedHat was my clue to try startx.
My prior experience with Woody helped me to (as root) select /dev/psaux for
the mouse. This computer does not have a mouse, it has alittle gren thing
amongs the keys, and two switches to click with.

The Error message obtained by starting kdm, with incorrect mouse settings,
resulted in a error message which "strongly recommended" use of reportbug.
So I tried using reportbug, it did not seem to do anything. Perhaps I should
remind you that I did not have e-mail working at that point on this computer.
I have e-mail still on my old Redhat setup on an old computer. I had not set
up ppp. I do not know whether you will ever get any output from that
bugreport.

I will probably enjoy using Debian. However I will not recommend it to any
who has no experience of Linux.

<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>
