When selecting the Belgian keyboard
layout during installation,
I don't end up with the named layout,
but have to manually edit XF86Config-4
( Option "XkbLayout" "be" ).
The language chosen during installation
was English.

Yes, that is a known problem for installations in English. With any other
language you would have gotten the correct kbd in X. We need to change
some other things before we can do the same for English, but this will be
fixed eventually.
