Bug#304341: Intel Blade Server installation problem fixed ;)
Hello...
Since a few weeks I've been searching how to install Sarge on Blade Server
(SBCE Chassis with SBX82 Blades). The problem was that debian-installer
couldn't recognize CD-ROM which is connect via USB. As I mentioned before
(earlier post) two modules were lost either in 2.4 and 2.6 series linux
kernel. The only way was to add these modules to initrd.gz. Now the story
begins ;)
1) I created copy of sarge-xxx.iso file
2) Took initrd.gz from install/2.6/, unzipped, changed of its size, added two
modules (taken from pool/main/k/kernel-image-2.6.8-i386/kernel-image-xxx.deb)
tg3 from lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/drivers/net/ and mpt* from
lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/ and changed
modules.dep. Next I gzipped initrd and moved to install/2.6/
3) Created test.iso from copy of sarge-xxx.iso and changed initrd.gz and made
a bootable CD
(I know this is very short description ... more details I can send if anyone
wants)
Then I checked how it works - I took linux26 from boot menu and wait ....
after a while d-i have found CDROM and rest of the installation was OK.
Reallyyyyyyy THANKS for Debian Installer Manual and WIKI - they are really
great. Now I know how to install my favorite Linux on Intel Blade Server.
Question to Debian Team: could you please add these modules to standard
debian-installer so others didn't have to change it manually?
Thanks,
Marcin
