Comments/Problems:

Wow! The install was much easier than I anticitpated, including the
32bit chroot to run openoffice. The machine flies compared to when
running windows XP.

Immediately after taking delivery of the laptop, I shrank the 2 windows
partitions using qtparted after booting into Knoppix. Then booted the
installer and partitioned space for both a 32bit and 64bit system.
Installed debian sarge (32bit) to give me a working system and then
installed the amd64 system. I've not booted into the 32 bit system
since (but I'll keep it as insurance ;).

Other than some mirror problems when trying to install sid-ia32 chroot,
I had no real problems and it's been educational ;)

Thanks

Clive

Why? The installer (partman) can handle vfat and ntfs resize as well.

These are the kind of success stories we like to read!

Closing the report as the installation was a double unqualified success.

Thanks.
