Comments/Problems:
- BIOS Version 1.4 (Award), 12/2004
Installation with SATA-devices Samsung SP1213C 120GB
7200U/min 8.9ms 8MB didn't work,
- tried SATA1 / SATA2 with Software-RAID
There is some package somewhere that fs (i think) pointed out to me for having
mdadm do bios-bios stuff, maybe we could add this to make d-i play nice with
bios raid and windows partitions in this setup. bios raid is especially
important if you want to boot from the disk :). i think it was a redhat
package or patch or something.
disabling sata in bios and install and boot from a IDE-disk works well.
perhaps i'll do investigation on booting from sata-raid in future.
- tried SATA1 with single Installation, both extf3 or
xfs
- all installation interrupted with Segmentation
fault
This seriously smells like bad hardware, do you have heatsink problem, bad
memory or problematic SATA cables ?
- no, perfect system hardware components,
- excellent temp., good dual-channel memory, no problematic cables.
- system runs after installation on ide-disk perfectly.
after complete setup on ide-disk, renabled sata in bios an reboot:
- first 120GB /dev/sda1-device mountable and useable (SATA1)
- second 120GB /dev/sda2-device mountable and useable (SATA2)
problem must be in netinstaller and installing on sata-device first.
then netinstaller hangs.
- debian-amd64/pure-amd64 interrupted with
SATA1-drive in each time (segmentation fault)
- sarge-installation interrupted with
SATA1-drive in each time
- all install setting tried, acpi=force,
acpi=off, lacpi=aoff (misc bios
settings), nothing help
Solution:
- sarge netinst-rc2 was okay with
single drive SATA1
- debian-amd64/pure-amd64 was okay
with IDE-install to /dev/hda1
WD800JB-00ETA0
- support of nv-ata must be
buggy with MSI Neo2 Platinum
I got the asus a8v deluxe, with via dual channel and promise raid onboard. I
got no major problem during the install (of ubuntu-amd64 though), except the
bios-raid thingy, but as i had only one disk anyway ...
system is stable with installed debian on
/dev/hda1 ("/boot") and /dev/hda3 ("/").
sata-device are used as data-partitions at the moment, only (no raid etc.)
Problem must be in SATA-installation of the Debian-AMD64-port.
I'll do some more investigation, but must read first something more
about raid-setup of nvidea's nforce3-chipset
(i have still no experiences with this chipset)
Friendly,
Sven Luther
