On my laptop running discover only takes less than 1s. I suspect that the delay is caused by some module, that takes very long to load. In this case your boot will not be faster if discover is not run. You can check the time it takes to run discover by using the discover command on the comman line. If you really don't want to run discover on every boot, you can also add all the modules it detects to /etc/modules and uninstall it. Gaudenz
