Instead choosing a language at the first prompt i could switch to a console and try everything by hand. What are the commands the installer ist executing at that point? I would try to boot of a cd but i do not have a SCSI-CDRom at hand. Most other Distributions are CD-based. Debian is my favourite, of course - but i could use others to try them out. But there is an old Suse7.0 installation on the harddisk, the previous owner left behind, which seems to work fine. I going to test that more througly and will report. thanks for that quick reply, -simon
