Bug#283510: installation-reports

However, I solved the problem! I was caused by an incorrect DNS server. After DHCP failed, I entered the following address information:

Address x.x.x.113
Subnet-Mask 255.255.255.192
Gatetway x.x.x.126
DNS x.x.x.126

However, that was incorrect. The DNS server is x.x.x.1
Using the right DNS server, it works like expected.

Sorry, I was too hastily. With RC2 it still fails!

The dialog says "The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 2)".

/var/log/messages still says
eval: 3: Syntax error: newline unexpected (expecting ")")

I don't know in what language your installer is written in, but my analysis of the problem leads me to the conclusion that there simply is a ) missing in the source code.

With the latest netinstall I downloaded yesterday, the problem did not occur. Therefor I run into another problem:

base-installer: info: Execution hook before debootstrap
base-installer: info: Running /usr/lib/base-installer.d/40netcfg
base-installer: warning: apt update failed: 100
base-installer: info: found Kernels ''
base-installer: error: exiting on error base-installer/kernel/no-kernel-found

When I tried to run this CD again from scratch, I ran again into the same error I see with rc2.

This really sucks. Up to now I never managed to install debian on any system (not even woody on my home PC several months ago). The hardware we are using is really not exotic and I'm sick of Fedora. Gentoo installed without problems, but I failed to get a 2.4 kernel running on it (and I need a 2.4 kernel for this testing environment).

Okay, back to this problem! You wanted to know the output of ps. I ran it twice. Once before installing the base system and once while I see the error during base system installation. The difference are three processes:

udpkg --configure --force-cofigure base-instnaller

/bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-installer.postinst co

/usr/bin/run-debootstrap --components= --debian-inst

On vt4 there are the following (maybe interesting) lines:

Execution hook before debootstrap
Runnig /usr/lib/base-installer.d/40netcfg

As said before, on vt3 there is the error regarding the missing closing bracket.
