Bug#283050: IP22 MIPS Linux Install Failure

Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: 21 November, 2004, D-I Nightly build
uname -a: n/a
Date: 25 Nov, 2004
Method: Network boot, network install, no proxy, data from
archive.progeny.net mirror

Machine: SGI Indy IP22
Processor: R4600 100MHz
Memory: 96 MB
Root Device: SCSI - SGI-branded Seagate 514 MB hard disk
Root Size/partition table:
	/boot: 35 MB
/ : 470-odd MB (can't get into machine to get exact number)

Output of lspci and lspci -n: n/a

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked: [ O ]
Configure network HW: [ O ]
Config network: [ O ]
Detect CD: [ ]
Load installer modules: [ O ]
Detect hard drives: [ O ]
Partition hard drives: [ E ]
Create file systems: [ O ]
Mount partitions: [ O ]
Install base system: [ O ]
Install boot loader: [ E ]
Reboot: [ O ]

Comments/Problems:

1. The version of fdisk that comes with Debian Installer REALLY sucks...
namely because I had to figure out on paper my partition table, rather
than just do it on the fly. Is there a better version of fdisk out there
(cfdisk, maybe could be patched to handle SGI slices and such?) that could
be integrated?

2. After installing the base system, and writing with ARCS to the PROM the
values I was told to by d-i after the installation of the base system was
complete, the system failed completely to boot -- it would load the ARCS
kernel loader, which then proceeded to tell me it couldn't find the
Kernel.
