Bug#248627: about your Debian installation report

Hello,

I've downloaded a daily build of the netinstaller (17.10.2004) and went
through the list of issues I found. To keep it short I just mention problems
that I still found, so all not mentioned but earlier reported issues for
this bug are gone.

- The network card (pcmcia card Xircom REM56G-100 (xirc2ps_cs)) is detected
but the module cannot be found. I've checked the fourth textconsole and
found that modprobe always tries to load the modules but exits with "no
module by that name found". Did someone accidentally remove the modules
directory for the pcmcia cards in the daily build ? I cannot find the
directory /lib/modules/2.4.26-1-386/pcmcia too. I've tried two other PCMCIA
network cards without success (3Com 3C589D and Xircom CE3B-100BTX).

- Testinstallation with an existing NTFS partition (Windows 2003) did only
give the option ext2 as filesystem and other Windows-filesystem, no
mountpoint was suggested, tested afterwards with empty disk Wasn't this

- The Grub installer didn't detect the existing Windows 2003 system, so it
suggested to be installed in the master boot record alone

- The bugs 259867 (languages in keymap chooser not sorted alphabetical) and
259869 (Timezone configuration should not show 'UTC' after system time) do
also still exist. I'll send a mail to those bug reports aswell.

- One other thing I found when I choose German in the beginning of the
installation is that when asked to choose the country, territory or area in
the next screen Belgium ("Belgien") is the default and not Germany
"Deutschland"). This error doesn't exist when choosing English, as then
United States is the default value.

Let me know once the PCMCIA network cards are working again and I'll test
the daily installer again.

Thanks for all the work.

Kind regards

Thorsten
