It only looks machine-specific.
All computers can use the same netcfg/get_name (and netcfg/get_domain)
as it will be overwritten by the information from the DHCP server.
pronounce 'netcfg/get_hostname=x' as
"seen an answer for the hostname question, no need to ask"

After discovering limits that are documented in #276726 and #276840
I got an almost automatic install with d-i, the only manual action
were entering root password[1] and quiting aptitude[2]

[1] AFAIK is that work in progress.
[2] aptitude is started when 'select manual packages' is selected.
