I'm a total Linux newbie but this installtion was where easy. Now is
the problem is how to use Debian. I have no idea how to start Gnome
or KDE.

I'm closing this report with reservations, since you apparently had no
problem installing. If you have not already, you should use tasksel to
install the destop task, which will make gnome and kde available and
start a graphical environemtn on boot. I'm not sure why you had trouble
doing this, and if something else caused you difficulty in getting a
desktop going, let me know.
