As requested, I attempted another testing install (with pre-rc2
businesscard). I had two existing OS X related partitions. The guided
partioner created a root, swap, and bootstrap partition, but the installer
still complained afterwards that it needed an Apple_Bootstrap partition of
size so_many_K. I went back into the partitioner and confirmed that it was
really present then chose Finish, after which the installation proceeded
normally, even booting linux afterwards. There were mirror/ dependency
issues that prevented the first setup steps from finishing, but I don't know
if that fits into this bug report. I hope this helps. Here is my partition
table:
/dev/disk0 map block size=512
#: type name length base ( size )
1: Apple_Bootstrap untitled 1954 @ 64
2: Apple_partition_map Apple 63 @ 1
3: Apple_HFS Apple_HFS_Untitled_3 112753712 @ 4456512 ( 53.8G)
4: Apple_UNIX_SVR2 untitled 4191407 @ 2018 ( 2.0G)
5: Apple_UNIX_SVR2 swap 263087 @ 4193425 (128.5M)
6: Apple_Free Extra 16 @ 117210224
Device block size=512, Number of Blocks=117210240
DeviceType=0x0, DeviceId=0x0
