INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version: 09-Mar-2004, from http://ftp.pl.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/installer-i386/current/
uname -a: I'm on different install now
Date: 10-Mar-2004
Method: from floppy then network on a previously prepeared ext3 filesystem
from ftp.pl.debian.org, no proxy.

Machine: PC self made from trash parts
Processor: Pentium 120
Memory: 32M RAM
Root Device: IDE, hda1
Root Size/partition table: all on hda1, about 1700M
Output of lspci: I'm on different install now

Install base system: [E]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [ ]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:

expert mode

Too small memory (32M).
I coped by removing all network modules after autodetection,
then removing all ide/pci modules, with the exception of piix.o,
before ide hardware detection.
Then a swap file and it run OK, till the kernel upload,
which didn't succed. It said "preparing new kernle choice, or smething
and then the main window poped up form behind leaving the left
and right edges of the message window visible.
The 3rd console said "Packages and Release downloaded, sorting packages",
or something similar.

I'm in Poland, chossing English language, but Polish timezone.
I would like if the non-expert install guessed Polish mirror
based on the timezone, rather than on language, keyboard, etc.

Now I will revert to 20040306, because then the kernel choice worked
(although only with 2.4* kernels). Wow, I managed to grab 20040306
on some slow mirror. Great. :>

Cheers,
Mikolaj

I'm closing this old installation report, since it looks to me like all the
problems reported in it are old and fixed. There are much newer versions of
the debian installer available, that fix lots of bugs. If you're able to
try one and verify that the problems you reported are fixed (or file a new
report if not), that would be great.

Thanks for your installation report.
