Bug#275581: (no subject)

Package: installation-reports
Debian-installer-version: 5 oct 2004, pre rc2
uname -a: (done during install) Linux (none) 2.4.27-1-386 #1 Fir Sep 3
06:24:46 UTC 2004 i686 unknown
Date: Fir Sep 3 06:24:46 UTC 2004
Method: netinst cd.
Machine: unbranded desktop
Processor: p2 400
Memory: 128mb
Root Device: incomplete install.
Root Size/partition table: can't get that far in install
Output of lspci and lspci -n: Can't do it during install.

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Mount partitions: [ ]
Install base system: [ ]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [ ]

Comments/Problems:

If I select the following modules:
*ide-cd
*isofs
*ide-detect
*ide-disk
Then the CD is detected without a hitch. (brief progress bar with "scanning
your cd" then "cd-rom detected")
If I add the "piix" module then the machine hangs. This happens with 2.4 and
2.6

Only 2 ide devices:
*hd ST38421A
*lg cdrom crd 8400c
following ide driver is installed by win 98
*82371AB/EB PCI bus master ide controller

Thanks, Frans Pop, for the advice. I can likely get a working install now,
however, if you wish for me to give further information then I shall do so.
