Bug#274459: further information 2
I booted the d-i with the parameter BOOT_DEBUG=1 and found this in
/var/log/syslog:
Oct 2 01:41:30 main-menu[395]: DEBUG: Menu item 'hw-detect-full' selected
Oct 2 01:41:30 main-menu[395]: DEBUG: configure hw-detect-full, status: 2

Oct 2 01:41:35 hw-detect: Detected discover version 1, installing
discover1.
Oct 2 01:41:35 hw-detect: Detected hotplug support, installing hotplug.
Oct 2 01:41:36 hw-detect: Missing modules 'ide-mod (Linux IDE driver),
ide-probe-mod (Linux IDE probe driver), ide-detec
t (Linux IDE detection), ide-generic (Linux IDE support), ide-floppy
(Linux IDE floppy), ide-disk (Linux ATA DISK), ide-c
d (Linux ATAPI CD-ROM), isofs (Linux ISO 9660 filesystem)
It seems the sarge-i386-netinst.iso lacks the ide modules so it can't be
used as a repository to do a network install from it if you have a ide
harddrive.
BTOH, I selected a "real" debian mirror (mirror.pacific.net.au) and the
installation was succesful.
Regards.
