Package: debian-installer
Version: rc1
Severity: minor

I'm currently in the process of installing Sarge on a workstation, using
sarge-i386-netinst.iso retrieved from

http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/sarge_d-i/i386/rc1/sarge-i386-netinst.iso

today. I had it talk German to me.

Being an old hand in Debian installations, out of sheer habit I did quite a bit
of fiddling with the partitions. In the end, I had configured /boot on
/dev/hda1, one big LVM PV on /dev/hda2, a single LVM VG to use it, and different
LVs with ext3 partitions for /, /var, /usr and /home, as well as swap. And
finally a third of the hard disc left free for further developments.

When I was through with the fiddling, a text came up to the extend that Debian
supposedly does not support /boot or root on LVM, and that it probably wouldn't
work.

I didn't believe that, so I took a chance and indeed - without any further
manual intervention to this respect, the machine came up into itself (i.e.,
without the CD inserted) to complete the next step of the installation. While I
write this, it's downloading loads of packages from the local apt-proxy.

Smooth sailing.

Regards, and thank you for providing fine software

Andreas

This has been fixed post rc1, although it forces use of lilo since grub
with root on lvm still does not work for at least most people.
