The warning about XFS root was a little harsh. Notwithstanding the bug above, if grub is set to use the MBR, there will be no problems with XFS root AFAICR. Indeed, I had no (well not many) problems with it.

Grub will hang at least 75% of the time when installing if /boot is on
XFS. It may not hang at all on some computers, it may hang every time
on others. There's a race involved.

OK, that makes some sense. I think this bit me with a previous install using RC1. Had to get a terminal and kill the grub process and rerun that part of the installer.

There have been a couple of threads on the XFS mailing list about grub but mainly concerning installing to the boot partition and one thread about the Fedora installer... may be of some interest. Yell and I'll dig out references.

Current daily builds of d-i dispense with the warning and just install
lilo if XFS is used.

That's fair enough.

Choosing XFS for all partitions was slightly painful in that I had to go through and edit each partition. What would be absolutely divine would be a menu item to change the filesystem for all partitions used as the point where you confirm the partitions.

Yeah. Reassigning to partman as a wishlist item.

Thanks.
