OK, I may need to do a new test (I don't mind) to check this. During install,
I started the install with a simple boot, took defaults. When I reached the
installation method, I used FTP. After moving forward, I reached the "Choose
software to install" screen. Development was not on the list.
What is the secret to getting to the screen that has a development task?

<g> Point well taken. My guess is that Joe User *IS* eventually going to care,
though. Sooner or later he's going to want to install something that doesn't
have a .deb. When he get's the software, he's going to be told that all he
has to do is
./configure
make
make install
*NOW* he cares. He may not have any idea what these statements do, but he's
going to care that he can't do them.
