Package: installation-reports

http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/i386/20040517/sarge-i386-netinst.iso

I started an installation using this image, but ended up going back to
beta 4, so I don't have a complete installation report. There was no
DHCP client available (reported separately against the businesscard
ISO as well), so I did a static installation. After confirming
that the IP address settings were correct, d-i prompted for a host
name, defaulting to the fully qualified name that DNS provided for the
IP address. If I just hit return at that point, I am sent back to
confirming my network settings. Hitting return just pops back and
forth between these two screens. To break out of this, I removed
everything after the first . in the host name and was sent to select
the domain name which had a correct default value.

Debian-installer should probably take just the first component of the
hostname that it gets back from DNS when creating a default answer to
the hostname question, or else it should either ignore the domain name
or give a meaningful error message.

I retested this case in the current test candidate for
debian-installer and am pleased to say that the bug has been fixed.
As submitter, I am closing this bug.
