Comments/Problems:

The major problem is now that although the ati radeon xconfig file shows
dri should load, it does not, and I do not have 3d acceleration -
without it, back to windows....

One must manually copy and paste the isl3890 file for the prism duette
driver into /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware - I stole it from knoppix, by
emailing the ils3980 file to myself, as it is the easiest and most
foolproof way.... probably not the right way.

Since the ati drivers worked in libranet, with the 2.4.26 kernel, I
cannot figure out why 3d accel is not working, but the ati file ccannot
be compiled fromsource, as there is no way to establish the permissions.

The installer should make sure the the paths to the dri module are
correct during the originial x configuration, else, there is no way for
the end user to get back in, as fglxrconfig just gives more of the same.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out an Installation Report for the
Debian Installer. Your report is much appreciated. The issue with the ATI
driver is likely that you may need to install the kernel-headers-* for
the kernel you are using if you are using a debian standard kernel. Then
you should be able to set up the ATI binary only driver for your ATI
Radeon 9600 so that you will have 3d acceleration. The issue with binary
firmwares like with the prism is a known issue and will likely be
documented how to deal with it in the proper way before sarge release.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney
