Comments/Problems:

Had to go into a shell and had to "apt-get -f install" then "apt-get
install initrd-tools" manually before the kernel selection. If I selected
a kernel, it fails with the following dependency error:
-----------

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
base-config: Conflicts: tasksel (< 2.00) but 1.52 is to be installed
initrd-tools: Depends: cramfsprogs (>= 1.1-4) but it is not going to be
installed
Depends: dash but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).

Apparently you managed to do the install before the mirror updated to
yesterday's version of testing. The day before testing was broken in the
way you describe, but AFAIK it was fixed yesterday.
