The new installer will be part of the new Debian Sarge release. The sid_d-i is 
the most up-to-date version of the _installer_, but is mostly used to install 
Debian Sarge.

As Sarge is moving toward release, installing it should be quite save, 
especially for private use. But if you are installing on something like a 
production server with high security/stability demands, you may be better of 
with a Woody installation.

There always is a risk that either the installer or Debian Sarge contain 
(small) bugs. However, the installer is quite stable for most platforms.
