Can you start the installer again, do the hardware detection, then
open a shell on alt-f2, and check if /proc/net/dev contains an entry
starting with "eth0".  This would mean that the card was recognized
properly and used by Linux.  If this is the case, you should be
offered network configuration.

Hmm, hold on, you say you used:

Is this a full (600 MB) CD or was this the netboot ~120 MB CD?
Maybe the full CD doesn't do network configuration because all you
need is on the CD.
