I've raised a bug with the sysvinit scripts about this. Basically, LVM needs to
shut down between the non-root filesystems being unmounted and root being
remounted RO. Currently this happens in the same script.

You probably shouldn't need to reinstall. Upgrading the tools should either fix
it automatically, or you can do vgcfgbackup/vgcfgrestore to rewrite the
metadata.
