Bug#253785: Install Problem
You are absolutely correct, the solution was listed in those references and
your instructions. Forgive me for not researching it enough online, I'll
make sure I check more thoroughly before reporting a possible bug next time.

This looks like a known problem with some laptop models.
Please try starting the installer with 'linux DEBCONF-PRIORITY=medium' or
'expert'.
You will be asked during hardware detection whether you want to start PCMCIA
services. Answer 'Yes'.
Next you will be given the opportunity to exclude address ranges. As you
have
a Dell, the solution is probably to enter 'exclude port 0x800-0x8ff' there.
