Bug#252995: Serial-ATA (Via) + 2.4 => problematic; 2.6 ok.)
Hi,
After reading up on a few other problem-reports with Debian-installer and SATA-
support I attempted modprobing sata_via on the console before the partitioning
step of the installer. (Dôh! Should've thought of that before.)
This helped recognise my SATA-hdd and be able to partition it.
The drive was recognised as /dev/sda instead of /dev/hde as 2.6 does, though.
I tried to figure out why the sata_via module wasn't loaded but I couldn't
figure out if it went wrong in hw-detect or because the pci.lst (is it even
used for chipsets?) from discover1 doesn't contain an entry for the chipset
(which it doesn't) or even something entirely different.
I used dailybuilds 20040608 and 20040609 and Test Candidate 1 to get a bare
installation working. Only TC1 succeeded to get to the final prompt. The two
daily builds failed over installing libdb2.
regards,
Thomas
