After running the installer again, invoking with 'linux vga=0x318' I 
get the following on tty3, with the same faliure message.

As a side note, the 20040607 sid iso worked wonderfully, so whatever 
the issue, it's fixed in the 20040607 sid image. I could try the latest 
normal nightly if you guys so desire.
