Can you pleasetry new images from
http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sarge_d-i/ and report how well
they work.  The error above shouldn't occur.

I guess you cannot reproduce these problem with the new image, or do
you perhaps have a spare disk on which you can remove all partitions?
