Thinking about it a bit more, that probably isn't the correct answer
(although it would work for me). I guess I just find the current
partitioning tool a little bit awkward because I cannot see the entire
system at once, I'm forced into a tree-like page structure that I find
constraining. What I like about tools such as fdisk is that I'm in a
flat structure and can view everything and perform any operation from
any other state.

Have you looked at the partioning tool in recent Fedora builds? It's
ugly, but I find it to be a good compromise between the raw power of
fdisk and the cuddly goodness of the current wizard (which is a bit of a
pain if you already know what you are about)
