Ok, first you need to understand that the reason it's probing your hard
drive is because this image is also intended for installs with the iso
on a hard drive. Also, it's hard to tell what is a memory stick and what
isn't.

On the first pass through a partition, it only looks for the iso in
top-level directory of the partiton, and the first level of
subdirectories. So it's strange that it takes a noticable time here. Is
it possible that the read from disk is hanging? Is there noticible disk
activity at all during this 10 minute delay?

When it seems to be hung, can you switch to the second virtual console
for a shell, and run a command like "echo /hd-media /hd-media/*"? Does
this also hang?
