Comments/Problems:
An internet connection with a cable modem and ethernet card is a problem.
Ethereal on Windows reports ARP and DHCP packets.
The Realtek ethernet card is mentioned in a disappeared file in
/etc/network/
and the module 8139too seems to be functional.
In the Debian installer DHCP has no result, also the hostname is sometimes
not asked.
A solution is found on  Troubles@Home (http://www.troublesathome.nl/).
With nano the file /etc/dhclient.conf is created with the text (hostname
cp12345-a as example):

interface "eth0" {
       send host-name "cp12345-a";
}

This seems to be sufficient.
After "ifconfig eth0 down" and "ifconfig eth0 up" download and installation
became possible.

In the new configuration on HD the ethernet card is not functional.
Adding "8139too" to /etc/modules seems to be a solution.

This was transient breakage in testing; a bad discover/discover-data
combination failed to detect any hardware. It is now fixed, we recommend
you apt-get install discover1 to fix it. Or, try a new installation with
beta4 of the debian-installer.
