I think what was startling to me is I told it to retry, and it appeared that it did not. Maybe even displaying the progress bar for a second in this case, while really cheating, would be reassurring. (I also wonder why dhcp takes 7 seconds longer with a 2.6 kernel in vmware than with 2.4..) -- see shy jo
