Hi

I'm having difficulties with the Sarge i386 Install disc 1. The closest thing
I can find on the bug reports is the closed log 187075 (final message
reproduced below). Main symptom is installation hangs with hardware
detection listed at 5% complete.

The hardware detection seems to hang only after I'm offered a list of detected
modules (with options to not use them). The menu at that point doesn't allow
the "Continue" tag to be highlighted/selected. Instead <Esc> continues the
hardware which then hangs no matter what I've previously selected/unselected
from the list of 5 or 6 modules. A function key (F11 or F12 I think) pressed
at the module selection screen gave me further info. At this point the error
messages on my system say that the sis900 module cannot be located and that I
should create a floppy with the required modules.

My local Lug suggested you might find use for the following

>>... output of 'lspci -vvvn' and any relevant 'dmesg' messages.

I've read the man pages for these so I think I've got the "how" sorted. If
the output of these commands are of use you'll need to guide me on the "when"

By typing 'expert' at the boot prompt I managed to set debconf warnings to
"critical only" which allowed me to barge through all the menus but I ended
up with a failed install

I subsequently checked the integrity of the ISO image and the packages within
the image. All OK except 1

./pool/contrib/m/msttcorefonts/msttcorefonts_1.1.4_all.deb: OK
./README.html: FAILED
./README.mirrors.html: OK
./README.mirrors.txt: OK
./README.non-US: OK
md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 1465 computed checksums did NOT match

The installer menu option to perform an MD5 check also reported a failure.

Thats all!

Thanks

Dave

The sis900 module is now part of the nic-modules udeb. I believe this
problem is solved.
