Testing d-i on sparc

Hi,

I'm prepared to hose the Ultra 5 under my bed that reads me the weather and
give d-i some testing on Sparc.

Can anyone in the know inform me if it works okay using a serial console, or
do I need to plug in a keyboard and monitor?
