Hi,
This is an old machine I know and I am not rebuilding kernels etc. I was hoping Debian would work out of the box from CD, and am now two days in. I used the boot command:
linux ide2=0x180,0x386
and can successfully install the basic system. However, when I reboot the system the CD-ROM is nolonger available. I have tried umount/mounting it to no avail with the message 'not a block device.' The fstab file looks fine.
A message that might be relevant is:
hdc: TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-7002Bc, ATAPI CDROM Drive
hdd: no response (stats=0xa1)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revison 3.11
ide_cs:hdc Vcc=5.0,Vpp=0.0
Any help would be appreciated; I have seen the same problem in mailing lists for other models but noone seems to get a response.
Next machine will be linux compatable from the start (or I will have to learn to read Japanese).
Peter.
