Yes, it is (hd1,5). I did not read that carefully enough!
Entering (hd1,5) caused the same error: Unable to install
GRUB in (hd1,5).
I selected <go back> and, on a lark, tried it again.
GRUB installed and the rest of the installation
proceeded normally.
Looks like two problems:
1. Selecting a non-existent partition causes a loop
from which there is no exit except rebooting.
2. The first selection of (hd1,5) for GRUB caused an
error. This was a logical partition on the second disk.
Going back and re-selecting Install GRUB installed it
without any further prompts.
