Comments/Problems:

My hard drive was not detected because of conflicts between basic ide (ide0/ide1 with cdrom) and extended ide (htp366 aka ide2/ide3 with hard drive).
I kept trying for many hours and finally found that workaround:
- When prompted for language "Choose this to proceed in English (USA)" (and not later!), switch to console (Alt+F2)
- Enter this
insmod ide-code
insmod ide-disk
insmod piix
insmod htp366
- Resume normal installation

If you insmod piix and htp366 when you really need it "Hard drive not found", then the hard drive is not detected.

After you boot a downloaded debian pre-built kernel, you can forget all that. Everything works fine! :)
It's a pity it can't be that simple after burning the CD!

FYI, I tried to install 2.6.0-test9: htp366 decided to load before piix, so that ide0/ide1 and ide2/ide3 are switched. It doesn't boot... But that's another story... :(

Hello, a while ago you reported a problem with the Debian Installer. I
think that your problem is fixed in the just released beta 3 of the
installer. If you're still able to install to the hardware you tried it on,
please download it from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/, and
try it again. Feel free to file another installation report.

A few of the new features of beta 3 include:

  - new easy to use partitioner that supports automatic partitioning and LVM
  - grub as the default boot loader on i386
  - wireless networking support
  - 2.4.25 kernel, with SATA support and security fixes
  - support for the XFS filesystem

Note that your original installation report may have been split up into
multiple individual bug reports. If so this message closes only one bug,
and not other issues you reported.
