Hmm too bad I didn't notice all this before..:-(. I think this is
kinda part of my "job" to see this as I also follow iso-codes quite
closely.
Unfortunately, I've really been pressured out in l10n work recently
due to several high colume activities everywhere...
Anyway, I think we have to live with your hack currently and fix this
later.
About iso_3166.tab file having non ASCII codes, well, the country
names there are supposed to be the official country names in the ISO
3166 standard....which indeed has the A° for Aland Islands, yes...
