It appears to be due to a problem in the devfs support in the 2.4.24 kernel, affecting only SCSI CDROM devices. It's possible this may be fixed in 2.4.25, but I have no way to test here. Would you be willing to test a 2.4.25-based d-i image if I build it, to see if this fixes the devfs problems? -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer
