All it does it download a Release file and look for a Suite line.
If this command works, then it should accept the mirror:

wget http://your-mirror/debian/dists/unstable/Release -O - | grep ^Suite: | cut -d' ' -f 2

It needs a new netcfg which is only going into the archive now.
