In the case of disctionaries-common, there exist debconf variables taken
from d-i for the user's preferred language and country; it should be
easy to use those to eliminate the question about which dictionary to
use as default.

dictionaries-common package with experimental support for this has been uploaded to Debian. Note that it will not be fully functional until all the ispell dictionaries and wordlist packages are migrated to the new .config format that will delegate all the dirty work on the dictionaries-common package. See

http://bugs.debian.org/from:agmartin@aq.upm.es

for details of the current status (31 fixed, 2 pending upload and 14 non fixed). As long as only fixed packages are used in the test runs the system should work (at least it did in my tests, real life is always a surprise). I will soon send reminders about that bug reports to try making the process faster.

Cheers,
